SUMMARY:NWTA BASIC WOMEN’S CLOTHING WORKSHOP 2
DESCRIPTION:New to reenacting?  Stop borrowing clothing and begin your living history experience! \nTired of wearing the same things?  Been reenacting for years & need an update?  Upgrade your clothing to reflect the current information available! \nThe NWTA SewIn would like to invite you to a three weekend workshop series during which we will construct a complete women’s outfit appropriate for 1774-1783.  Through the course of the three weekends\, you will learn basic hand sewing techniques while constructing a shift\, pocket\, petticoat\, bedgown\, apron\, and cap.  With the addition of shoes\, these workshops will give you a serviceable wardrobe you can use for years to come.  Included in the workshop will be information on documenting your wardrobe\, period correct fabrics\, period construction techniques\, and tips from experienced reenactors on creating a persona. You will leave the workshop series with a complete wardrobe along with the NWTA required Individual Inspection Form completed with full documentation for every item you make.  While we would certainly love to have you attend all three sessions\, each session will be self-contained and may be taken independently with instructor permission. \nThe workshops will be held at Forest Glen Park\, the location of the NWTA Danville event. Bring your own bedding and stay in the Edgewood Center for free. If you plan on staying\, please bring a dish to pass for Saturday night and your own breakfast and lunch for during the day.  A full kitchen is available. \nSchedule\nApron & Petticoat:  The apron and petticoat are constructed in very similar manner.  This weekend\, we will learn to pleat to a waist tape or band and our costumes will start to come together. \nKits for this weekend: Apron\, Petticoat \n\nDay 1:  We first present information about petticoats before working on our own.  We’ll end the day with instruction on hemming the apron.\nDay 2:  Finish both apron & petticoats by pleating them to the waistbands and adding tapes.\n\nOptional Items: \n\nComplete your outfit with a handkerchief and socks.  Documentation will be provided in the IIF for these items if purchased through Wm. Booth Draper.\nHousewife (an 18th century sewing kit): The kit will provide you with all the materials needed to assemble the housewife\, as well as sewing tools you will need to complete most 18th century sewing projects in a period appropriate manner including supplies for sewing in camp.  It will also provide additional practice with hand sewing along with a small selection of period fabrics for reference.
